Most of the animals in the park were rescued from some sort of bondage, especially the sloth bears, who were chained from their nostrils and made to dance to their tunes of live entertainers. Bhojpur Temples – Situated in the valleys beside the Betwa river, Bhojpur is a historical town founded by Bhopal’s first king, Maharaja Bhoj. The king belonged to the clan of the Parmar Rajputs, who ruled the region during the 11th century AD. Today, these temples stand tall as a reminiscent of that magnificent era. Located about 30 km from Bhopal, these temples are also known as Bhojeshwar Temples and are dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temples have large domes, which exquisite sculptures donning on the walls, ceilings, and doorways. Within one of the temples, you can also find a massive, 18 feet high Shiva lingam, which attracts devotees from all corners of the region

Cave paintings in Bhimbetka – Situated in the Vindhyan Hills, few kilometers south of Bhopal, the cave paintings in Bhimbetka have been tagged as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. These clusters of natural caves are the site of few astonishing wall paintings made in the early paleolithic era. Dr. V. S. Wakankar, an esteemed archaeologist, excavated a series of about 1000 caves in 1957. These paintings do not showcase gods, goddesses or kings, but the daily life of early mankind like group dances, hunting session, horse riding, shelter building etc.
